Warped El Oso 10th Anniversary Grand Papa Toro (6x50 / Box 10)

A decade ago, Kyle Gellis of Warped Cigars debuted three cigar brands: El Oso, Don Reynaldo, and La Colmena, which all had the unique characteristic of not only being made in the United States, but at El Titan de Bronze, a small factory in the heart of the Little Havana district of Miami. To mark this anniversary, the cigarmaker is releasing a trio of limited-edition cigars to commemorate each brand. The first, El Oso 10th Anniversary, began shipping to retailers on Monday. El Oso is Spanish for “the bear,” and the cigar has a playful “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” spirit. Its cigar bands not only feature the image of a bear, the sizes in the regular line are dubbed Cub, Mama and Papa as they increase in size. El Oso 10th Anniversary is the biggest cigar in that line yet, a toro measuring 6 inches by 50 ring gauge called Grand Papa, (fatter than the El Oso Papa, which is a belicoso measuring 6 by 48). Gellis says that a single roller at the factory is dedicated to producing Grand Papa and is capable of rolling up to 100 cigars in a day.

The anniversary cigar has a slightly different blend than the original El Oso. Like the core line, El Oso 10th Anniversary features an Ecuador Habano oscuro wrapper with a mix of Dominican and Nicaraguan filler, but the Ecuador binder has been replaced by a Nicaraguan leaf. Gellis says this change was made to maintain the blend’s strength to accommodate the new cigar’s thicker ring gauge. According to the company, the new cigar is medium-to full-bodied. Production is limited to just 1,500 boxes, each containing 10 cigars.
