Picture if you will, the year was 1994 and the premium cigar boom of the 90s was starting to gain momentum. Lito Gomez and his wife Ines had a very successful jewelry business that catered to high-end clientele. To the shock of their families, they announced they were leaving the jewelry industry to pursue their passion of producing premium cigars in the Dominican Republic. It took them 2 full years to find their footing and launch the La Flor Dominicana brand, but an instant star was born. The couple has been on a roll and they haven’t looked back at the jewelry business since. What made and continues to make the La Flor brand special is that they are known for growing exceptional tobaccos in the Dominican Republic, and producing high quality cigars with outstanding flavor.

The Chapter One from La Flor Dominicana marks the first blend designed by Antonio Gomez, the son of Litto Gomez. Starting by playing around with box pressing a regular DL Maduro Chisels, the Chapter One would eventually develop into something else entirely. After trying nearly every wrapper type in La Flor’s arsenal, Antonio eventually settled on a Brazillian ligero oscuro wrapper, due to it’s incredibly dark, rich and unique flavor. To balance the heavy flavor from the wrapper, Antonio added a Connecticut Broadleaf binder for it’s rich and chocolatey flavor. Both those tobaccos are wrapped around Dominican fillers to give the Chapter One the classic flavors of La Flor Dominicana. The result? A monstrously heavy flavor, filled with sweet earth, spice, and red chili pepper flavors. Delicious.
