There’s something exciting about watching a young cigar company hustle. They’ve got the vision and the drive; they usually have some angle to work; and hopefully they have the tobaccos and cigars to back it all up. Luckily for Reinier Lorenzo he did. In 2011 he founded HVC as a way of paying homage to Havana City where he lived for most of his life. He was inspired by his upbringing to keep the Cuban tradition of hand-made cigars alive and well. His focus is mainly on outstanding, small-crop Nicaraguan tobaccos that remind him of home. Each cigar in the HVC portfolio is a unique experience that in some way or another pays homage to his hometown. We jumped on the HVC band wagon early on, and it has been a pleasure to watch this outstanding upstart company gain traction and attention.

With HVC Cerro, Reinier Lorenzo wanted to create a cigar that featured full, lush flavors of Cuban cigars with the consistency and quality of Nicaraguan cigars. Boy, did he hit the nail on the head. El Cerro is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Havana, Cuba and he worked hand-in-hand with Aganorsa Leaf to bring his vision to life. They selected a blend that featured some of Aganorsa’s finest tobaccos and settled on Nicaraguan filler and binder leaves along with a spectacular Corojo ‘98 wrapper. Tasting notes include flavors of earth, cedar, and pepper along with notes of citrus, espresso, and honey roasted nuts. Keep an eye on HVC. In our opinion this is one of the best boutique brands out there.
