There’s an old saying I remember hearing growing up that went something like “it takes all types.” It never really hit home until I started working in the premium cigar industry. No matter which part of the business you look at, from growing and manufacturing, to distribution and retail, and even consumers themselves, there’s an incredible variety of unique and colorful characters included. Just look around any lounge in the country and you’ll see lovers of the leaf from all different stripes. Jim Robinson, aka “Island Jim” and Pittsburgh retailer, encapsulates the “it takes all types” ideal. He has a decidedly Key West vibe about him. Not what you might expect from someone who calls the steel city home. When he decided to create a cigar with his friend and manufacturing partner, Oscar Valladeres, he wanted something that captured his unique, laid back style. Take one look at the cigar and the label bearing his nickname and you’ll quickly understand this cigar is as “flavorful” as the man himself.
