DBL is not a common household name in the premium cigar industry, but it’s a brand that should certainly be on your radar. DBL stands for “Dominican Big Leaguer” and was founded by baseball nut Francisco Almonte (hence the name), and he has literally been working with tobacco since he was a kid at age 7. At this young age, he worked to devein tobacco for his father, and by age 12 he was rolling cigars. But there’s more to Almonte’s story. He had the unique privilege of studying and learning the ins & outs of cigar making and blending from none other than Carlos Fuente and Lito Gomez. With a pedigree like that, Francisco and DBL have some big shoes to fill. And in our opinion, they deliver.

The DBL Mafu cigar is very special to the company, for it is eponymously named after a beloved employee at our cigar factory named Mafu. The Mafu is a very powerful cigar that is balanced, complex and packed with plenty of flavor. This cigar was blended with that bold, strong smoker in mind. Mafu is offered in two wrappers, A Mexican San Andres Maduro and an Ecuadorian Cameroon. Both offerings have the same binder, Havano Vuelta Abajo (HVA) and filler blend of Dominican- grown Corojo 99 and Pennsylvania Broadleaf. These cigars are available in two sizes, the Gordo (8 x 60) or a box-pressed toro (6 x 54) packaged in 30-count boxes containing 15 maduro and 15 Cameroon in each box. This is a tribute to Mafu and the love and generosity that he offers the DBL family.
