Selected Tobacco S.A. enjoys a legendary status in the cigar industry. The same outfit that gave us some of the most exclusive and eclectic cigar releases (Atabey, Byron, Bandelero) has now graced us with the Alfonso release. Already named #1 Cigar of 2022, The Alfonso takes it’s inspiration from the use of French oak in winemaking. In fact, for the Alfonso Extra Añejo line, Selected Tobacco used both cedar and French oak to age the cigars for five years. One rolled, the Alfonso is placed in a cedar-lined room and aged between two to five years as the humidity is intentionally raised and lowered during the aging process to enhance flavor and body.
In 2022, only 200 boxes per size of the Alfonso Extra Añejo were ever released, despite a staggering demand and A+ ratings from multiple outlets. Rolled at the Tabacos de Costa Rica factory, The Alfonso Extra Añejo is dressed in a flawless Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper and binder covering rich Nicaraguan Ligero and Peruvian filler tobaccos.
