Nica Rustica by Drew Estate El Brujito (6x52 / Box 25)

Drew Estate has been on a landslide roll since the release of Liga Privada back in 2007. Their meteoric rise from infused cigar giant to truly premium cigar manufacturer has been a roller coaster ride that includes such heralded releases as the aforementioned Liga, but also Undercrown and Herrera Esteli. Continuing their plunge into the non-infused market, Drew Estate introduced Nica Rustica a few years ago and they are finally building on the line by adding some new sizes.

As the name implies, Nica Rustica cigars are not meant to be the prettiest stick on the shelf. Rather it is rustic in appearance and taste. Jonathan Drew, founder and head of Drew Estate, has stated this is a cigar meant for hardcore tobacco lovers, un-refined and un-polished, and medium to full bodied. The first size in the line was dubbed “El Brujito”. “El Brujito” is a shaman or witch doctor and the image seen on the packaging is an image found on a rock in Esteli that dates back to pre-Colombian times. The earliest known users of tobacco in Esteli were the shamans.

Now, Drew Estate has added two new, fresh sizes to the line. A short robusto and an extra-long belicoso. The Nica Rustica line is medium-to-full strength and full of flavor. It is complex and well balanced with flavors of earth and coffee with hints of cocoa and pepper. Nica Rustica brings some great flavors to the table that balance well with the strength level. This is your new everyday favorite, go-to stick.

    Sweet and chocolatey goodness

The Nica Rustica El Brujito, like the Undercrown, is a smoke bomb--plenty of resting smoke (not a bad thing, IMO). Full of dark, smokey-sweet flavors: some dark chocolate; some dark, sweet coffee; brown sugar; some baking spice (nutmeg?)--just enough spice on the retrohale to keep things interesting. Medium in the strength department, picks up noticeably in the last third. A bowl of cereal in a cigar--satisfying any time of day. This stick always delivers.

Reliable product with plumes of smoke

Posted by Mark (Melbourne, Australia) on 28th Jul 2014

A flavor that is very comfortable to the palate with no harsh spices or stale after taste. An easy draw with plumes of smoke practically guaranteed. It sometimes loses power toward the halfway mark but then picks up again toward the second half. It will require consistent drawing toward the middle to prevent it from going out, however, a quick relight and you're back to smokey heaven.
